Salutations to you, the sustainer of the universe, the soul and the supreme soul.
O Surya, the threefold one, omniscient of all three times, I bow to you.

भेदाभेदविहीनाय नानाभेदधराय ते । अनाकाराय देवाय शाश्वताय नमो नमः ॥
Obeisance to you who are beyond unity and multiplicity, who bear various forms,
who are formless, divine and eternal. I bow repeatedly to you.
Salutations to you, O Sun with immeasurable energy, the foundation of all actions,
the very embodiment of all activities, who manifests in three forms.

अमृताय सदा ब्रह्मनिष्ठाय त्वन्तरात्मने । अर्यम्णे रवये चैव हरिदश्वाय ते नमः ॥
I salute you who are nectar itself, forever established in Brahman, the inner soul,
Aryaman, Ravi (the shining one), and Haridashva (he whose horses are green).

आदिमध्यान्तहीनाय तदाधाराय ते नमः । अनन्तविभवायैव तेजोराशे नमो नमः ॥
Prostrations to you who are without beginning, middle or end,
the support of that (Brahman), the one of infinite splendor,
the reservoir of radiance. Repeated salutations to you.
Salutations to the lord of the helpless, the universal being, the lord of the days.
Salutations to the destroyer of obstacles for your devotees, their protector. I bow again and again.

भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदायैव नानाखेलकराय च । नमो नमः परेशाय पुरुषाय दिवस्पते ॥
Salutations to the bestower of enjoyment and liberation,
to the one who plays diverse games, to the supreme ruler,
the Supreme Person, O Lord of the Day!
Salutations to the singular one without a second, the foundation of Maya,
the wielder of Maya, O Lord of consciousness. Protect me who has surrendered to you.

आत्माकारं च सर्वत्र किं स्तौमि त्वां दिवाकरम् । समर्था नाभवन् वेदा अतस्त्वां प्रणमामहे ॥
How can I praise you, O Sun, who permeates everything as the form of the soul?
Even the Vedas are incapable of this, hence I prostrate myself before you.

देहि मे परमेशान भक्तिं ते चरणाम्बुजे । अन्यं वरं ययाचेऽहं त्वं मे पुत्रो भव प्रभो ॥
Grant me devotion to your lotus feet, O Supreme Lord.
I ask for another boon: O Lord, be my son.

सूर्य उवाच । एवं वदन्तमानन्दयुक्तं मुनिवरं द्विजाः । अवदं तं प्रसन्नोऽहं भावयुक्तं तपस्विनम् ॥
Surya said: O sages, having heard the sage (Kashyapa) speaking filled with bliss,
pleased and delighted with that devoted ascetic, I said to him:
