| عَرَبِي | يا أَيُّهَا الَّذينَ آمَنوا لا تَتَّخِذوا عَدُوّي وَعَدُوَّكُم أَولِياءَ تُلقونَ إِلَيهِم بِالمَوَدَّةِ وَقَد كَفَروا بِما جاءَكُم مِنَ الحَقِّ يُخرِجونَ الرَّسولَ وَإِيّاكُم ۙ أَن تُؤمِنوا بِاللَّهِ رَبِّكُم إِن كُنتُم خَرَجتُم جِهادًا في سَبيلي وَابتِغاءَ مَرضاتي ۚ تُسِرّونَ إِلَيهِم بِالمَوَدَّةِ وَأَنا أَعلَمُ بِما أَخفَيتُم وَما أَعلَنتُم ۚ وَمَن يَفعَلهُ مِنكُم فَقَد ضَلَّ سَواءَ السَّبيلِ |

| Transliteration (Unicode) | Yaa ayyuhal lazeena aamanoo laa tattakhizoo 'aduwwee wa 'aduwaakum awliyaaa'a tulqoona ilaihim bilmawaddati wa qad kafaroo bima jaaa'akum minal haqq, yukhrijoonar Rasoola wa iyyaakum an tu'minoo billaahi rabbikum in kuntum kharajtum jihaadan fee sabeelee wabtighaaa'a mardaatee; tusirroona ilaihim bilma waddati wa ana a'alamu bimaaa akhfaitum wa maaa a'lantum; wa many yaf'alhu minkum faqad dalla sawaaa'as sabeel |
| English (Pickthall) | O ye who believe! Choose not My enemy and your enemy for allies. Do ye give them friendship when they disbelieve in that truth which hath come unto you, driving out the messenger and you because ye believe in Allah, your Lord? If ye have come forth to strive in My way and seeking My good pleasure, (show them not friendship). Do ye show friendship unto them in secret, when I am Best Aware of what ye hide and what ye proclaim? And whosoever doeth it among you, he verily hath strayed from the right way. |
| English (Yusuf Ali) | O ye who believe! Take not my enemies and yours as friends (or protectors),- offering them (your) love, even though they have rejected the Truth that has come to you, and have (on the contrary) driven out the Prophet and yourselves (from your homes), (simply) because ye believe in Allah your Lord! If ye have come out to strive in My Way and to seek My Good Pleasure, (take them not as friends), holding secret converse of love (and friendship) with them: for I know full well all that ye conceal and all that ye reveal. And any of you that does this has strayed from the Straight Path. |
| English (Saheeh Int’l) | O you who have believed, do not take My enemies and your enemies as allies, extending to them affection while they have disbelieved in what came to you of the truth, having driven out the Prophet and yourselves [only] because you believe in Allah, your Lord. If you have come out for jihad in My cause and seeking means to My approval, [take them not as friends]. You confide to them affection, but I am most knowing of what you have concealed and what you have declared. And whoever does it among you has certainly strayed from the soundness of the way. |
| English (Qarai) | O you who have faith! Do not take My enemy and your enemy for friends, [secretly] offering them affection, if you have set out for jihad in My way and to seek My pleasure, for they have certainly denied whatever has come to you of the truth, expelling the Apostle and you, because you have faith in Allah, your Lord. You secretly nourish affection for them, while I know well whatever you hide and whatever you disclose, and whoever among you does that has certainly strayed from the right way. |
| English (Hilali) | O you who believe! Take not My enemies and your enemies (i.e. disbelievers and polytheists, etc.) as friends, showing affection towards them, while they have disbelieved in what has come to you of the truth (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, this Quran, and Muhammad SAW), and have driven out the Messenger (Muhammad SAW) and yourselves (from your homeland) because you believe in Allah your Lord! If you have come forth to strive in My Cause and to seek My Good Pleasure, (then take not these disbelievers and polytheists, etc., as your friends). You show friendship to them in secret, while I am All-Aware of what you conceal and what you reveal. And whosoever of you (Muslims) does that, then indeed he has gone (far) astray, (away) from the Straight Path. |
| English (Abridged Expl.) | O those who have faith in Allah and act upon what He has legislated for them! Do not take My enemies and your enemies as intimate friends who you befriend and love, when they have disbelieved in the religion that has come to you at the hands of your Messenger. They also drove the Messenger out of his home in Makkah, and drove you out of your homes in Makkah too. They do not consider the bonds of kinship nor blood in your regard; not due to anything except that you have brought faith in Allah who is your Lord. So if you have truly gone out to strive in My path and to seek My pleasure, do not befriend them while also secretly sending the information about the Muslims, out of your love for them. I know better of what you conceal in that regard, and what you disclose; nothing is hidden from me in any case. And whoever intimately befriends and loves the disbelievers has verily strayed from the middle path, deviated from the truth and avoided that which is right. |
| हिन्दी (Farooq) | ऐ ईमान लानेवालो! यदि तुम मेरे मार्ग में जिहाद के लिए और मेरी प्रसन्नता की तलाश में निकले हो तो मेरे शत्रुओं और अपने शत्रुओं को मित्र न बनाओ कि उनके प्रति प्रेम दिखाओं, जबकि तुम्हारे पास जो सत्य आया है उसका वे इनकार कर चुके है। वे रसूल को और तुम्हें इसलिए निर्वासित करते है कि तुम अपने रब - अल्लाह पर ईमान लाए हो। तुम गुप्त रूप से उनसे मित्रता की बातें करते हो। हालाँकि मैं भली-भाँति जानता हूँ जो कुछ तुम छिपाते हो और व्यक्त करते हो। और जो कोई भी तुममें से भटक गया |
| हिन्दी (Suhail) | ऐ ईमानदारों अगर तुम मेरी राह में जेहाद करने और मेरी ख़ुशनूदी की तमन्ना में (घर से) निकलते हो तो मेरे और अपने दुशमनों को दोस्त न बनाओ तुम उनके पास दोस्ती का पैग़ाम भेजते हो और जो दीन हक़ तुम्हारे पास आया है उससे वह लोग इनकार करते हैं वह लोग रसूल को और तुमको इस बात पर (घर से) निकालते हैं कि तुम अपने परवरदिगार ख़ुदा पर ईमान ले आए हो (और) तुम हो कि उनके पास छुप छुप के दोस्ती का पैग़ाम भेजते हो हालॉकि तुम कुछ भी छुपा कर या बिल एलान करते हो मैं उससे ख़ूब वाक़िफ़ हूँ और तुममें से जो शख़्श ऐसा करे तो वह सीधी राह से यक़ीनन भटक गया |
| हिन्दी तफ्सीर (Mokhtasar) | ऐ अल्लाह पर ईमान रखने और उसकी शरीयत पर अमल करने वालो! मेरे दुश्मनों और अपने दुश्मनों को दोस्त न बनाओ कि उनसे मित्रता रखो और उनके प्रति प्रेम दिखाओं, जबकि उन्होंने उस धर्म का इनकार किया है, जो तुम्हारे नबी के द्वारा तुम्हारे पास आया है। वे रसूल को उनके घर से निकालते हैं तथा तुम्हें भी मक्का में तुम्हारे घरों से निकालते हैं। वे तुम्हारे बारे में रिश्ते-नाते का तनिक भी ख़याल नहीं करते। ऐसा केवल इस कारण करते हैं कि तुम अपने पालनहार अल्लाह पर ईमान ले आए हो। यदि तुम मेरे रास्ते में जिहाद के लिए और मेरी प्रसन्नता तलाश करने के लिए निकले हो, तो ऐसा न करो। तुम उनके प्रति स्नेह के तौर पर उन्हें गुप्त रूप से मुसलमानों की सूचनाएँ प्रदान करते हो, जबकि मैं अच्छी तरह जानता हूँ कि तुमने उसमें से क्या छुपाया है और क्या प्रकट किया है। मुझसे उसमें से या किसी और चीज़ में से कुछ भी छिपा नहीं है। और जो कोई भी काफिरों के प्रति दोस्ती और स्नेह का व्यवहार करेगा, तो वह सीधे रास्ते से हट गया, सत्य मार्ग से भटक गया और यथार्थ से अलग हो गया। |
| ગુજરાતી (Rabila) | ૧. હે ઇમાનવાળાઓ! મારા અને તમારા દુશ્મનોને દોસ્ત ન બનાવો, તમે તો મિત્રતાથી તેમને સંદેશો મોકલાવો છો, જો કે તેઓ જે સત્ય તમારી પાસે આવી ગઈ છે, તેનો ઇન્કાર કરે છે, તેઓ પયગંબર અને તમને પોતાને પણ ફકત એટલા માટે જ દેશનિકાલ કરે છે કે તમે પોતાના પાલનહાર પર ઇમાન ધરાવો છો, હવે જો તમે (ફત્હે મક્કા માટે) મારા માર્ગમાં જિહાદ અને મારી પ્રસન્નતા માટે નીકળ્યા છો તો છૂપી રીતે તેમને દોસ્તી પત્ર અને સંદેશો મોકલાવો છો? જો કે જે કઈ તમે છુપાવો છો અથવા જાહેર કરો છો હું તેને ખૂબ સારી રીતે જાણું છું, તમારામાંથી જે કોઇ આવું કાર્ય કરશે તે ખરેખર સત્ય માર્ગથી ભટકી જશે |
| Nepali (Ahl-al-Hadith) | १) हे मोमिनहरू ! मेरो र आफ्नो शत्रुहरूलाई आफ्नो मित्र नबनाऊ, तिमी त मित्रताबाट उनीहरूकहाँ सन्देश पठाउँछौ र तिनीहरू त्यस सत्यलाई जुन तिम्रो नजिक आइसकेको छ इन्कार गर्दछन्, पैगम्बर र तिमीलाई यसकारण मात्र निर्वासन गर्दछन् कि तिमी आफ्नो पालनकर्तामाथि ईमान राख्दछौ । यदि तिमी मेरो मार्गमा धर्मयुद्धको लागि र मेरो प्रसन्नताको खोजीमा निस्कन्छौ त तिमी उनीनिर मित्रताको सन्देश गोप्यरूपले पठाउँछौ र मलाई पूर्ण ज्ञात छ । जो तिमीले मबाट लुकाएका छौ र त्यो पनि जसलाई तिमी खुल्लारूपले गरेका हौ । तिमीहरूमध्ये जोकोही पनि यस्तो काम गर्नेछ । त्यो निःसन्देह सोझो मार्गबाट विचलित भइहाल्छ । |
| हिन्दी (Al-Omari) | ऐ लोगो जो ईमान लाए हो! मेरे शत्रुओं तथा अपने शत्रुओं को मित्र न बनाओ। तुम उनकी ओर मैत्री का संदेश भेजते हो, हालाँकि निश्चय उन्होंने उस सत्य का इनकार किया है, जो तुम्हारे पास आया है। वे रसूल को तथा तुमको इस कारण निकालते हैं कि तुम अपने पालनहार अल्लाह पर ईमान लाए हो। यदि तुम मेरी राह में जिहाद के लिए और मेरी प्रसन्नता तलाश करने के लिए निकले हो (तो ऐसा मत करो)। तुम गुप्त रूप से उनकी ओर मैत्री का संदेश भेजते हो, हालाँकि मैं अधिक जानने वाला हूँ, जो कुछ तुमने छिपाया और जो तुमने ज़ाहिर किया। तथा तुममें से जो भी ऐसा करेगा, तो निश्चय वह सीधे रास्ते से भटक गया। |
| Roman Urdu (Maududi) | Aey logon jo iman laye ho, agar tum meri raah mein jihad karne ke liye aur meri raza-joyi ki khatir (watan chodh kar gharon se) nikle ho to mere aur apne dushmano ko dost na banao. Tum unke saath dosti ki tarah(befriend) dalte ho, halaanke jo haqq tumhare paas aaya hai usko maanne se woh inkar kar chuke hain. Aur unki ravish yeh hai ke Rasool ko aur khud tumko sirf is kasoor par jila-watan (expel) karte hain ke tum apne Rubb, Allah par iman laye ho. Tum chupa kar unko dostana paighaam bhejte ho, halaanke jo kuch tum chupa kar karte ho aur jo elania (openly) karte ho, har cheez ko mai khoob janta hoon. Jo shaks bhi tum mein se aisa karey woh yaqeenan raah-e-raast se bhatak gaya |

Meray aur (khud) apney dushmanon ko apna dost na banao tum to dosti say unn ki taraf payghaam bhejtay ho aur woh iss haq kay sath jo tumharay pass aa chuka hai kufur kertay hain payghumbar ko aur khud tumhen bhi mehaz iss waja say jila watan kertay hain kay tum apney rab per eman rakhtay ho agar tum meri raah mein jihad kay liye aur meri raza mandi ki talab mein nikaltay ho ( to inn say dostiyan na kero) tum inn kay pass mohabbat ka paygham posheeda posheeda bhejtay ho aur mujhay khoob maloom hai jo tum ney chupaya aur woh bhi jo tum ney zahir kiya tum mein say jo bhi iss kaam ko keray ga woh yaqeenan raah-e-raast say behak jaye ga |

| عَرَبِي | إِن يَثقَفوكُم يَكونوا لَكُم أَعداءً وَيَبسُطوا إِلَيكُم أَيدِيَهُم وَأَلسِنَتَهُم بِالسّوءِ وَوَدّوا لَو تَكفُرونَ |

| English (Pickthall) | If they have the upper hand of you, they will be your foes, and will stretch out their hands and their tongues toward you with evil (intent), and they long for you to disbelieve. |
| English (Yusuf Ali) | If they were to get the better of you, they would behave to you as enemies, and stretch forth their hands and their tongues against you for evil: and they desire that ye should reject the Truth. |
| English (Saheeh Int’l) | If they gain dominance over you, they would be to you as enemies and extend against you their hands and their tongues with evil, and they wish you would disbelieve. |
| English (Qarai) | If they were to confront you they would be your enemies, and would stretch out against you their hands and [unleash] their tongues with evil [intentions], and they are eager that you [too] should be faithless. |

| English (Abridged Expl.) | If they get their chance, they will disclose the enmity they harbour in their hearts towards you and will stretch their hands out to you to harm and beat you, while swearing and abusing you with their tongues. They will also desire that you disbelieve in Allah and His Messenger so that you become just like them. |

| عَرَبِي | لَن تَنفَعَكُم أَرحامُكُم وَلا أَولادُكُم ۚ يَومَ القِيامَةِ يَفصِلُ بَينَكُم ۚ وَاللَّهُ بِما تَعمَلونَ بَصيرٌ |

| Transliteration (Tanzil) | Lan tanfaAAakum arhamukum wala awladukum yawma alqiyamati yafsilu baynakum waAllahu bima taAAmaloona baseerun |
| Transliteration (Unicode) | Lan tanfa'akum arhaamukum wa laaa awlaadukum; yawmal qiyaamati yafsilu bainakum; wallaahu bimaa ta'maloon baseer |
| English (Pickthall) | Your ties of kindred and your children will avail you naught upon the Day of Resurrection. He will part you. Allah is Seer of what ye do. |
| English (Yusuf Ali) | Of no profit to you will be your relatives and your children on the Day of Judgment: He will judge between you: for Allah sees well all that ye do. |
| English (Saheeh Int’l) | Never will your relatives or your children benefit you; the Day of Resurrection He will judge between you. And Allah, of what you do, is Seeing. |
| English (Qarai) | Your relatives and children will not avail you on the Day of Resurrection: He will separate you [from one another], and Allah watches what you do. |
| English (Hilali) | Neither your relatives nor your children will benefit you on the Day of Resurrection (against Allah). He will judge between you. And Allah is the All-Seer of what you do. |
| English (Abridged Expl.) | Your ties of kinship will never benefit you, nor your offspring, if you intimately befriend the disbelievers due to them. On the Day of Judgement, Allah will separate between you and enter the people of Paradise into Paradise and the people of the hellfire into the hellfire, so you will be of no use to one another. And Allah is watchful of your actions; none of them are hidden from Him (may He be glorified) and He will soon requite you for them. |
| हिन्दी (Farooq) | क़ियामत के दिन तुम्हारी नातेदारियाँ कदापि तुम्हें लाभ न पहुँचाएँगी और न तुम्हारी सन्तान ही। उस दिन वह (अल्लाह) तुम्हारे बीच जुदाई डाल देगा। जो कुछ भी तुम करते हो अल्लाह उसे देख रहा होता है |
| हिन्दी (Suhail) | क़यामत के दिन न तुम्हारे रिश्ते नाते ही कुछ काम आएँगे न तुम्हारी औलाद (उस दिन) तो वही फ़ैसला कर देगा और जो कुछ भी तुम करते हो ख़ुदा उसे देख रहा है |
| हिन्दी तफ्सीर (Mokhtasar) | तुम्हारे रिश्तेदार और तुम्हारे बच्चे तुम्हें कदापि कोई लाभ नहीं देंगे, अगर तुमने उनकी खातिर काफिरों से दोस्ती रखी। क़ियामत के दिन अल्लाह तुम्हारे बीच जुदाई डाल देगा। चुनाँचे जन्नती लोग जन्नत में प्रवेश करेंगे और जहन्नमी लोग जहन्नम में। अतः तुम एक-दूसरे को लाभ नहीं पहुँचा सकोगे और अल्लाह तुम्हारे कर्मों को देख रहा है। उससे तुम्हारा कोई काम छिपा नहीं है और वह तुम्हें उनका बदला देगा। |
| ગુજરાતી (Rabila) | ૩. તમારા સગા-સબંધીઓ અને સંતાનો તમને કયામતના દિવસને કામ નહીં આવે, તે (અલ્લાહ તઆલા) તમારી વચ્ચે ફેંસલો કરી દેશે અને જે કંઇ પણ તમે કરી રહ્યા છો તેને અલ્લાહ ખૂબ સારી રીતે જોઇ રહ્યો છે. |
| Nepali (Ahl-al-Hadith) | ३) कियामतको दिन न तिम्रा सम्बन्धीहरू, र न सन्तानहरू कुनै काम आउनेछन् । त्यस दिन अल्लाहले तिमीहरूबीच न्याय गर्नेछ र जे–जति तिमीले गर्दछौ, अल्लाहले त्यसलाई देख्दछ । |
| हिन्दी (Al-Omari) | क़ियामत के दिन हरगिज़ न तुम्हारी नातेदारियाँ तुम्हें लाभ पहुँचाएँगी और न तुम्हारी संतान। वह तुम्हारे बीच जुदाई डाल देगा। और अल्लाह उसे जो तुम कर रहे हो ख़ूब देखने वाला है। |

We have disbelieved in the religion you are upon; enmity and dislike has become apparent between us and you until you bring faith in Allah alone and do not ascribe anyone as partner to Him.” So it is necessary for you to proclaim innocence from your disbelieving nation just like they did, except for the statement Abraham (peace be upon him) made to his father: “I will definitely seek forgiveness on your behalf from Allah”: do not follow him in that because it was before Abraham lost hope in his father bringing faith. It is therefore not allowed for a believer to seek forgiveness on behalf of an idolater. Neither can you prevent any punishment of Allah coming upon yourself. O our Lord! Upon You we rely in all our affairs, to You we return in repentance, and to you is our return on the Day of Judgement. |

| हिन्दी तफ्सीर (Mokhtasar) | तुम्हारे लिए (ऐ मोमिनो!) इबराहीम अलैहिस्सलाम और उन मोमिनों में जो उनके साथ थे, एक अच्छा आदर्श है, जब उन्होंने अपनी काफ़िर जाति से कहा : हम तुमसे तथा उन मूर्तियों से बरी हैं, जिन्हें तुम अल्लाह को छोड़कर पूजते हो। हम उस धर्म को नहीं मानते, जिसपर तुम चल रहे हो, तथा हमारे और तुम्हारे बीच हमेशा के लिए शत्रुता और घृणा प्रकट हो चुकी है, यहाँ तक कि तुम अकेले अल्लाह पर ईमान ले आओ और किसी को उसका साझी न बनाओ। अतः तुम्हें भी चाहिए कि उनकी तरह अपनी काफ़िर जाति से बरी होने का ऐलान कर दो। परंतु इबराहीम अलैहिस्सलाम की इस बात को छोड़कर, जो उन्होंने अपने पिता से कही थी कि : मैं अवश्य अल्लाह से तुम्हारे लिए क्षमा याचना करूँगा। तो तुम इसमें उनका पालन न करो। क्योंकि यह बात उन्होंने अपने पिता से निराश होने से पहले कही थी। अतः किसी मोमिन के लिए जायज़ नहीं है कि वह किसी मुश्रिक के लिए क्षमा माँगे। और मैं तुम्हारा अल्लाह की यातना से कुछ भी बचाव नहीं कर सकता। ऐ हमारे पालनहार! हमने अपने सभी मामलों में केवल तुझी पर भरोसा किया है, और हम तेरी ही ओर तौबा करते हुए लौटे हैं, और तेरी ही ओर क़ियामत के दिन सबको लौटकर आना है। |

An example of this is how Asma bint Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq behaved with her disbelieving mother when she came to visit her after she had taken permission from the Prophet (peace be upon him) for this and he instructed her to join family ties. Allah loves those who are just to themselves, their families and what they are in charge of. |

| عَرَبِي | يا أَيُّهَا الَّذينَ آمَنوا إِذا جاءَكُمُ المُؤمِناتُ مُهاجِراتٍ فَامتَحِنوهُنَّ ۖ اللَّهُ أَعلَمُ بِإيمانِهِنَّ ۖ فَإِن عَلِمتُموهُنَّ مُؤمِناتٍ فَلا تَرجِعوهُنَّ إِلَى الكُفّارِ ۖ لا هُنَّ حِلٌّ لَهُم وَلا هُم يَحِلّونَ لَهُنَّ ۖ وَآتوهُم ما أَنفَقوا ۚ وَلا جُناحَ عَلَيكُم أَن تَنكِحوهُنَّ إِذا آتَيتُموهُنَّ أُجورَهُنَّ ۚ وَلا تُمسِكوا بِعِصَمِ الكَوافِرِ وَاسأَلوا ما أَنفَقتُم وَليَسأَلوا ما أَنفَقوا ۚ ذٰلِكُم حُكمُ اللَّهِ ۖ يَحكُمُ بَينَكُم ۚ وَاللَّهُ عَليمٌ حَكيمٌ |

| English (Pickthall) | O ye who believe! When believing women come unto you as fugitives, examine them. Allah is Best Aware of their faith. Then, if ye know them for true believers, send them not back unto the disbelievers. They are not lawful for them (the disbelievers), nor are they (the disbelievers) lawful for them. And give them (the disbelievers) that which they have spent (upon them). And it is no sin for you to marry such women when ye have given them their dues. And hold not to the ties of disbelieving women; and ask for (the return of) that which ye have spent; and let them (the disbelievers) ask for that which they have spent. That is the judgment of Allah. He judgeth between you. Allah is Knower, Wise. |

When there come to you believing women refugees, examine (and test) them: Allah knows best as to their Faith: if ye ascertain that they are Believers, then send them not back to the Unbelievers. But pay the Unbelievers what they have spent (on their dower), and there will be no blame on you if ye marry them on payment of their dower to them. Such is the command of Allah: He judges (with justice) between you. And Allah is Full of Knowledge and Wisdom. |

And if you know them to be believers, then do not return them to the disbelievers; they are not lawful [wives] for them, nor are they lawful [husbands] for them. But give the disbelievers what they have spent. And there is no blame upon you if you marry them when you have given them their due compensation. And hold not to marriage bonds with disbelieving women, but ask for what you have spent and let them ask for what they have spent. That is the judgement of Allah; He judges between you. | English (Qarai) | O you who have faith! When faithful women come to you as immigrants, test them. Allah knows best [the state of] their faith. Then, if you ascertain them to be [genuinely] faithful women, do not send them back to the faithless. They are not lawful for them, nor are they lawful for them, but give them what [dowry] they have spent [for them]. There is no sin upon you in marrying them when you have given them their dowries. Do not hold on to [conjugal] ties with faithless women. Demand [from the infidels] what you have spent [as dowries], and let the faithless demand [from you] what they have spent [as dowries]. That is Allah’s judgment; He judges between you, and Allah is all-knowing, all-wise. |

When believing women come to you as emigrants, examine them, Allah knows best as to their Faith, then if you ascertain that they are true believers, send them not back to the disbelievers, they are not lawful (wives) for the disbelievers nor are the disbelievers lawful (husbands) for them. But give the disbelievers that (amount of money) which they have spent [as their Mahr] to them. And there will be no sin on you to marry them if you have paid their Mahr to them. Likewise hold not the disbelieving women as wives, and ask for (the return of) that which you have spent (as Mahr) and let them (the disbelievers, etc.) ask back for that which they have spent. That is the Judgement of Allah. He judges between you. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise. |
| English (Abridged Expl.) | O you who have faith in Allah, and who act on what He has ordained for you, when believing women come to you as emigrants from the land of disbelief to the land of Islam, then test them with respect to the sincerity of their faith. Allah knows best about their faith - nothing of what their hearts contain is hidden from Him. If you are sure of their being believers after such a test that makes their sincerity apparent to you, then do not send them back to their disbelieving husbands. It is not lawful for believing women to be married to disbelievers and it is not lawful for disbelievers to marry believing women. Give their husbands the dowry that they paid. There is no sin on you, O believers, if you marry them after their waiting period is over if you give them their dowry. The person whose wife is a disbeliever or who turned away from Islam, then he should not retain her, because their marriage has terminated by her disbelief. Ask the disbelievers for the dowry you paid to your renegade wives and let them ask for the dowry of their wives who accepted Islam. That - which has been mentioned about your and their returning the dowry - is Allah’s judgment. He (may He be glorified) passes judgment amongst you as He wills. Allah knows the states and actions of His servants. Nothing of that is hidden from Him. He is Wise in what He ordains for His servants. |
| हिन्दी (Farooq) | ऐ ईमान लानेवालो! जब तुम्हारे पास ईमान की दावेदार स्त्रियाँ हिजरत करके आएँ तो तुम उन्हें जाँच लिया करो। यूँ तो अल्लाह उनके ईमान से भली-भाँति परिचित है। फिर यदि वे तुम्हें ईमानवाली मालूम हो, तो उन्हें इनकार करनेवालों (अधर्मियों) की ओर न लौटाओ। न तो वे स्त्रियाँ उनके लिए वैद्य है और न वे उन स्त्रियों के लिए वैद्य है। और जो कुछ उन्होंने ख़र्च किया हो तुम उन्हें दे दो और इसमें तुम्हारे लिए कोई गुनाह नहीं कि तुम उनसे विवाह कर लो, जबकि तुम उन्हें महर अदा कर दो। और तुम स्वयं भी इनकार करनेवाली स्त्रियों के सतीत्व को अपने अधिकार में न रखो। और जो कुछ तुमने ख़र्च किया हो माँग लो। और उन्हें भी चाहिए कि जो कुछ उन्होंने ख़र्च किया हो माँग ले। यह अल्लाह का आदेश है। वह तुम्हारे बीच फ़ैसला करता है। अल्लाह सर्वज्ञ, तत्वदर्शी है |
| हिन्दी (Suhail) | ऐ ईमानदारों जब तुम्हारे पास ईमानदार औरतें वतन छोड़ कर आएँ तो तुम उनको आज़मा लो, ख़ुदा तो उनके ईमान से वाकिफ़ है ही, पस अगर तुम भी उनको ईमानदार समझो तो उन्ही काफ़िरों के पास वापस न फेरो न ये औरतें उनके लिए हलाल हैं और न वह कुफ्फ़ार उन औरतों के लिए हलाल हैं और उन कुफ्फार ने जो कुछ (उन औरतों के मेहर में) ख़र्च किया हो उनको दे दो, और जब उनका महर उन्हें दे दिया करो तो इसका तुम पर कुछ गुनाह नहीं कि तुम उससे निकाह कर लो और काफिर औरतों की आबरू (जो तुम्हारी बीवियाँ हों) अपने कब्ज़े में न रखो (छोड़ दो कि कुफ्फ़ार से जा मिलें) और तुमने जो कुछ (उन पर) ख़र्च किया हो (कुफ्फ़ार से) लो, और उन्होने भी जो कुछ ख़र्च किया हो तुम से माँग लें यही ख़ुदा का हुक्म है जो तुम्हारे दरमियान सादिर करता है और ख़ुदा वाक़िफ़कार हकीम है |
| हिन्दी तफ्सीर (Mokhtasar) | ऐ अल्लाह पर ईमान रखने वालो और उसकी शरीयत पर अमल करने वालो! जब तुम्हारे पास मोमिन स्त्रियाँ कुफ़्र की धरती से इस्लाम की धरती की ओर हिजरत करके आ जाएँ, तो उन्हें जाँच लिया करो कि उनका ईमान सच्चा है या नहीं। अल्लाह उनके ईमान को अधिक जानता है। उनके दिलों में जो कुछ भी है उससे छिपा नहीं है। अगर परीक्षण के बाद उनकी सच्चाई ज़ाहिर हो जाए और तुम जान लो कि वे मोमिन हैं, तो उन्हें उनके काफ़िर पतियों की ओर न लौटाओ। मोमिन स्त्रियों के लिए वैध नहीं है कि काफ़िरों से निकाह करें तथा काफ़िरों के लिए वैध नहीं है कि मोमिन स्त्रियों से निकाह करें। तथा उनके (काफ़िर) पतियों को वह महर दे दो, जो उन्होंने अपनी स्त्रियों पर खर्च किया था। और (ऐ ईमान वालो!) तुमपर कोई गुनाह नहीं है कि उनकी इद्दत गुज़र जाने के बाद उनसे निकाह कर लो, जब तुम उन्हें उनका महर दे दो। और जिसकी पत्नी काफ़िर हो या इस्लाम से फिर गई हो, तो वह उसे अपने पास न रखे। क्योंकि उसके कुफ़्र के कारण उन दोनों का निकाह बाधित हो गया। और काफ़िरों से अपनी इस्लाम से फिर जाने वाली पत्नियों पर खर्च किया हुआ महर माँग लो, तथा वे भी अपनी इस्लाम ग्रहण करने वाली स्त्रियों पर खर्च किया हुआ महर माँग लें। यह (तुम्हारी तथा उनकी ओर से महर की वापसी) अल्लाह का निर्णय है। वह तुम्हारे बीच जो चाहता है, निर्णय करता है। और अल्लाह अपने बंदों की स्थितियों और उनके कार्यों से खूब अवगत है। उनमें से कोई भी चीज़ उससे छिपी नहीं है। वह अपने बंदों के लिए जो नियम बनाता है, उसमें हिकमत वाला है। |
| ગુજરાતી (Rabila) | ૧૦. હે ઇમાનવાળાઓ! જ્યારે તમારી પાસે ઇમાનવાળી સ્ત્રીઓ હિજરત કરીને આવે તો તમે તેમની ચકાસણી કરી લો, અલ્લાહ તેમના ઇમાનને ખૂબ સારી રીતે જાણે છે, જ્યારે તમને ખબર પડી જાય કે તેણીઓ (સાચે જ) ઇમાનવાળી છે, તો હવે તેણીઓને કાફીરો પાસે પાછી ન મોકલો, આવી સ્ત્રીઓ તે (કાફિરો) માટે હલાલ નથી અને ન તેઓ તેણીઓ માટે હલાલ છે અને કાફિરોએ જે કઈ આવી મોમિન સ્ત્રીઓ પર ખર્ચ કર્યું હોય તો તેમને આપી દો, અને તેમની સાથે લગ્ન કરવા પર કોઈ ગુનોહ નથી, જ્યારે કે તમે તે સ્ત્રીઓને તેમની મહેર આપી દો, અને તમે પોતે પણ કાફિર સ્ત્રીઓને પતાના લગ્નમાં ન રાખો અને જે કંઇ તમે તેણીઓ પર ખર્ચ કર્યું હોય, તો તે (કાફિરો) પાસે માંગી લો અને જે મહેર કાફિરોએ પોતાની (મુસલમાન) સ્ત્રીઓને આપ્યું હતું, તો તેઓ (મુસલમાનો) પાસે માંગી લે, આ અલ્લાહ નો આદેશ છે, જે તમારી વચ્ચે નિર્ણય કરી રહ્યો છે, અલ્લાહ તઆલા બધુ જાણાનાર (અને) હિકમતવાળો છે. |
| Nepali (Ahl-al-Hadith) | १०) मोमिनहरू ! जब तिम्रो पासमा मोमिन स्त्रीहरू आप्रवासी भएर आउँछिन् भने उनीहरूलाई तिमीले जाँचीहाल । वास्तवमा उनीहरूको ईमानलाई राम्ररी परीक्षा गर्ने त अल्लाह हो तर यदि उनीहरू तिमीलाई ईमानवाली लाग्दछिन् भने, उनीहरूलाई तिमीले अब कुफ्फारको पासमा फिर्ता नपठाऊ । ती स्त्रीहरू उनीहरूको लागि वैध छैनन्, र न उनीहरू ती स्त्रीहरूको लागि वैध छन् । र जे–जति ती काफिरहरूले खर्च गरेका छन्, त्यो उनीहरूलाई फिर्ता दिइहाल । र ती स्त्रीहरूलाई महर दिएर उनीसित निकाह गर्नुमा तिमीलाई कुनै पाप छैन । र काफिर स्त्रीहरूको सतित्व आफ्नो बैवाहिक अधिकारमा नराख जे–जति तिमीले उनीहरूमाथि खर्च गरेका छौ, तिमीले उनीहरूसित माँगिहाल र जे–जति काफिरहरूले खर्च गरेका छन्, त्यो काफिरहरू माँगिहालुन्, यो अल्लाहको निर्णय हो, जसले तिमीहरूबीच फैसला गर्दछ । अल्लाह सर्वज्ञानी र तत्वदर्शी छ । |
| हिन्दी (Al-Omari) | ऐ ईमान वालो! जब तुम्हारे पास ईमान वाली स्त्रियाँ हिजरत करके आएँ, तो उन्हें जाँच लिया करो। अल्लाह उनके ईमान को ज़्यादा जानने वाला है। फिर यदि वे तुम्हें ईमान वाली मालूम हों, तो उन्हें काफ़िरों की ओर वापस न करो। न ये स्त्रियाँ उन (काफ़िरों) के लिए हलाल हैं और न वे (काफ़िर) इनके लिए हलाल होंगे। और उन काफ़िरों ने जो खर्च किया है, वह उन्हें दे दो। तथा तुमपर कोई दोष नहीं है कि उनसे विवाह कर लो, जब उन्हें उनका महर दे दो। तथा तुम काफ़िर स्त्रियों के सतीत्व को रोक कर न रखो और जो तुमने ख़र्च किया है वह माँग लो। और वे (काफ़िर) भी माँग लें, जो उन्होंने खर्च किया है। यह अल्लाह का फैसला है। वह तुम्हारे बीच फैसला करता है। तथा अल्लाह सब कुछ जानने वाला, पूर्ण हिकमत वाला है। |
| Roman Urdu (Maududi) | Aey logon jo iman laye ho, jab momin auratein hijrat karke tumhare paas aayein to (unke momin honay ki) jaanch padtaal karlo. Aur unke iman ki haqeeqat Allah hi behtar janta hai. Phir jab tumhein maloom ho jaye ke woh momin hain to unhein kuffar ki taraf wapas na karo. Na woh kuffar ke liye halal hain aur na kuffar unke liye halal. Unke kafir shoharon ne jo mehar unko diye thay woh unhein pher do aur unsey nikah kar lene par tumse koi gunaah nahin jabke tum unke mehar unko ada kardo. Aur tum khud bhi kafir auraton ko apne nikah mein na roakey raho, jo mehar tumne apni kafir biwiyon ko diye thay woh tum wapas maang lo aur jo mehar kafiron ne apni musalmaan biwiyon ko diye thay unhein woh wapas maang lein. Yeh Allah ka hukum hai, woh tumhare darmiyaan faisla karta hai aur Allah Aleem-o-Hakeem (all knowing-most wise) hai |

Allah Forgiving to those servants of His who repent to him and He is merciful to them. |

| हिन्दी (Suhail) | (ऐ रसूल) जब तुम्हारे पास ईमानदार औरतें तुमसे इस बात पर बैयत करने आएँ कि वह न किसी को ख़ुदा का शरीक बनाएँगी और न चोरी करेंगी और न जेना करेंगी और न अपनी औलाद को मार डालेंगी और न अपने हाथ पाँव के सामने कोई बोहतान (लड़के का शौहर पर) गढ़ के लाएँगी, और न किसी नेक काम में तुम्हारी नाफ़रमानी करेंगी तो तुम उनसे बैयत ले लो और ख़ुदा से उनके मग़फ़िरत की दुआ माँगो बेशक बड़ा ख़ुदा बख्शने वाला मेहरबान है |
| हिन्दी तफ्सीर (Mokhtasar) | ऐ नबी! जब आपके पास मोमिन स्त्रियाँ इस बात पर बैअत (प्रण) करने के लिए आएँ (जैसे मक्का पर विजय के अवसर पर हुआ था) कि किसी को अल्लाह का साझी नहीं ठहराएँगी, बल्कि केवल उसी की इबादत करेंगी, चोरी नहीं करेंगी, व्यभिचार नहीं करेंगी, जाहिलिय्यत के लोगों की तरह अपनी औलाद की हत्या नहीं करेंगी, व्यभिचार के नतीजे में पैदा होने वाले बच्चे का संबंध अपने पतियों से नहीं जोड़ेंगी, तथा किसी अच्छे कार्य (जैसे मृतक पर रोने-पीटने, बाल मुँडाने और गरीबान फाड़ने से मनाही) में आपकी अवज्ञा नहीं करेंगी : तो आप उनसे बैअत ले लें और उनके आपसे बैअत करने के बाद उनके गुनाहों के लिए अल्लाह से क्षमा माँगें। निश्चय अल्लाह अपने तौबा (क्षमा याचना) करने वाले बंदों को क्षमा करने वाला, उनपर दया करने वाला है। |
| ગુજરાતી (Rabila) | ૧૨. હે પયગંબર! જ્યારે તમારી પાસે મુસલમાન સ્ત્રીઓ તે વાતો વિશે બૈઅત કરે કે તેઓ અલ્લાહ સાથે કોઇને ભાગીદારા નહીં ઠેરવે, ચોરી નહીં કરે, વ્યભિચાર નહીં કરે, પોતાની સંતાનોને કત્લ નહીં કરે અને કોઇ એવો આરોપ નહીં મુકે જે પોતાના હાથો અને પગો સામે ઘડેલો હોય અને કોઇ સદકાર્યમાં તમારી અવજ્ઞા નહીં કરે તો તમે એમનાથી બૈઅત લઇ લો અને તેમના માટે અલ્લાહ પાસે માફી માંગો, નિ:શંક અલ્લાહ તઆલા માફ કરનારવાળો અને દયાળુ છે. |
| Nepali (Ahl-al-Hadith) | १२) हे पैगम्बर जब तिम्रो पासमा मोमिना स्त्रीहरू यस कुरामा बैअत (बाचा) गर्न आउँछिन् कि उनीहरूले अल्लाहसित अरु कसैलाई साझेदार बनाउने छैनिन् न चोरी गर्नेछिन्, न व्यभिचार गर्नेछिन्, न आफ्ना सन्तानहरूको हत्या गर्नेछिन् र न आफ्ना हात र खुट्टाहरूबीच कुनै आरोप रच्नेछिन्, र कुनै राम्रो काममा न तिम्रो अवज्ञा गर्नेछिन्, तब उनीहरूसित वाचा लिइहाल्नुस् र उनीहरूको निम्ति अल्लाहसित क्षमाको प्रार्थना गर्नुस् । निश्चय नै अल्लाह बडो क्षमाशील र अत्यन्त दयावान छ । |
| हिन्दी (Al-Omari) | ऐ नबी! जब आपके पास ईमान वाली स्त्रियाँ आएँ, जो आपसे इस बात पर 'बैअत' करें कि वे किसी को अल्लाह का साझी नहीं बनाएँगी और न चोरी करेंगी, न व्यभिचार करेंगी, न अपनी संतान को क़त्ल करेंगी, न कोई बोहतान (झूठा अभियोग) लगाएँगी जिसे उन्होंने अपने हाथों तथा पैरों के सामने गढ़ लिया हो और न किसी नेक काम में आपकी अवज्ञा करेंगी, तो आप उनसे 'बैअत' ले लें तथा उनके लिए अल्लाह से क्षमा की याचना करें। निःसंदेह अल्लाह अति क्षमाशील, अत्यंत दयावान् है। |
| Roman Urdu (Maududi) | Aey Nabi, Jab tumhare paas momin auratein bayt (pledge) karne ke liye aayein aur is baat ka ahad karein ke woh Allah ke saath kisi cheez ko shareek na karengi, chori na karengi, zina na karengi, apni aulad ko qatal na karengi, apne haath paaon ke aage koi bohtan (calumny) ghad kar na layengi, Aur kisi amr-e-maaroof (anything known to be good) mein tumhari nafarmani na karengi, to unse bayt lelo aur unke haqq mein Allah se dua-e-magfirat karo. Yaqeenan Allah darguzar(maaf) farmane wala aur Reham karne wala hai |

| English (Pickthall) | O ye who believe! Be not friendly with a folk with whom Allah is wroth, (a folk) who have despaired of the Hereafter as the disbelievers despair of those who are in the graves. |
| English (Yusuf Ali) | O ye who believe! Turn not (for friendship) to people on whom is the Wrath of Allah, of the Hereafter they are already in despair, just as the Unbelievers are in despair about those (buried) in graves. |
| English (Saheeh Int’l) | O you who have believed, do not make allies of a people with whom Allah has become angry. They have despaired of [reward in] the Hereafter just as the disbelievers have despaired of [meeting] the inhabitants of the graves. |
| English (Qarai) | O you who have faith! Do not befriend a people at whom Allah is wrathful: they have despaired of the Hereafter, just as the faithless have despaired of the occupants of the graves. |
| English (Hilali) | O you who believe! Take not as friends the people who incurred the Wrath of Allah (i.e. the Jews). Surely, they have been in despair to receive any good in the Hereafter, just as the disbelievers have been in despair about those (buried) in graves (that they will not be resurrected on the Day of Resurrection). |
| English (Abridged Expl.) | Since the Sūrah commenced with a warning against becoming allies with Allah’s enemies, it ends with a warning against the same to reiterate what was said previously. Allah said: O you who have faith in Allah, and who act on what He has ordained for you, do not take as allies a people with whom Allah is angry. They do not have conviction in the afterlife. Instead they despair of it just like their despair of the return of their dead to them, because they reject resurrection. |
