| Transliteration (Unicode) | Wujoohuny yawma 'izin khaashi'ah |
| English (Pickthall) | On that day (many) faces will be downcast, |
| English (Yusuf Ali) | Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, |
| English (Saheeh Int’l) | [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, |
| English (Abridged Expl.) | People on the day of judgment will either be wretched or fortunate. The faces of the wretched will be humiliated and downcast. |

| English (Pickthall) | Drinking from a boiling spring, |
| English (Yusuf Ali) | The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, |

| عَرَبِي | لَيسَ لَهُم طَعامٌ إِلّا مِن ضَريعٍ |
| Transliteration (Tanzil) | Laysa lahum taAAamun illa min dareeAAin |
| Transliteration (Unicode) | Laisa lahum ta'aamun illaa min daree' |
| English (Pickthall) | No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit |
| English (Yusuf Ali) | No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' |
| English (Saheeh Int’l) | For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant |
| English (Abridged Expl.) | They will not have any food to nourish them besides the worst and most rotten type of food from a plant that is called shibriq, which becomes poisonous when it becomes dry. |

| عَرَبِي | لا يُسمِنُ وَلا يُغني مِن جوعٍ |
| Transliteration (Tanzil) | La yusminu wala yughnee min jooAAin |
| Transliteration (Unicode) | Laa yusminu wa laa yughnee min joo' |
| English (Pickthall) | Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. |
| English (Yusuf Ali) | Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. |

| Transliteration (Unicode) | Laa tasma'u feehaa laaghiyah |
| English (Pickthall) | Where they hear no idle speech, |
| English (Yusuf Ali) | Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: |
| English (Saheeh Int’l) | Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. |
| English (Abridged Expl.) | In Paradise they will not hear any word of falsehood and futility, let alone hearing any prohibited word. |

| عَرَبِي | فيها عَينٌ جارِيَةٌ |

| Transliteration (Unicode) | Feehaa 'aynun jaariyah |
| English (Pickthall) | Wherein is a gushing spring, |
| English (Yusuf Ali) | Therein will be a bubbling spring: |
| English (Saheeh Int’l) | Within it is a flowing spring. |
| English (Abridged Expl.) | In this Paradise there are flowing springs that they will make flow and direct however they wish. |

| Transliteration (Unicode) | Feehaa sururum marfoo'ah |
| English (Pickthall) | Wherein are couches raised |
| English (Yusuf Ali) | Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, |
| English (Saheeh Int’l) | Within it are couches raised high |

| English (Pickthall) | And goblets set at hand |
| English (Yusuf Ali) | Goblets placed (ready), |

| English (Yusuf Ali) | And cushions set in rows, |

| English (Pickthall) | And silken carpets spread. |
| English (Yusuf Ali) | And rich carpets (all) spread out. |
| English (Saheeh Int’l) | And carpets spread around. |
| English (Abridged Expl.) | In it are carpets spread out here and there. |

| عَرَبِي | أَفَلا يَنظُرونَ إِلَى الإِبِلِ كَيفَ خُلِقَت |
| Transliteration (Tanzil) | Afala yanthuroona ila alibili kayfa khuliqat |
| Transliteration (Unicode) | Afalaa yanzuroona ilalibili kaifa khuliqat |
| English (Pickthall) | Will they not regard the camels, how they are created? |
| English (Yusuf Ali) | Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- |
| English (Saheeh Int’l) | Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created? |
| English (Abridged Expl.) | After Allah mentioned the disparity between the states of the wretched and the fortunate in the afterlife, He directed the sight of the disbelievers to what will show them the power of the Creator and the beauty of His creation, so that they can use this as evidence for faith in order to enter Paradise and become of the fortunate, by saying: Do they not look with reflection at the camels, how Allah created them and subjugated them to human beings?! |

| عَرَبِي | وَإِلَى السَّماءِ كَيفَ رُفِعَت |
| Transliteration (Tanzil) | Waila alssamai kayfa rufiAAat |
| Transliteration (Unicode) | Wa ilas samaaa'i kaifa rufi'at |
| English (Pickthall) | And the heaven, how it is raised? |
| English (Yusuf Ali) | And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- |
| English (Saheeh Int’l) | And at the sky - how it is raised? |
| English (Abridged Expl.) | And at the sky, how He raised it so that it became a protected ceiling above them, that does not fall on them?! |

| عَرَبِي | وَإِلَى الجِبالِ كَيفَ نُصِبَت |
| Transliteration (Tanzil) | Waila aljibali kayfa nusibat |
| Transliteration (Unicode) | Wa ilal jibaali kaifa nusibat |
| English (Pickthall) | And the hills, how they are set up? |
| English (Yusuf Ali) | And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- |
| English (Saheeh Int’l) | And at the mountains - how they are erected? |
| English (Abridged Expl.) | And at the mountains, how He erected them and used them to make the earth stable so that it does not shake with the people?! |
| हिन्दी (Farooq) | और पहाड़ो की ओर कि कैसे खड़े किए गए? |
| हिन्दी (Suhail) | और पहाड़ों की तरफ़ कि किस तरह खड़े किए गए हैं |

| عَرَبِي | وَإِلَى الأَرضِ كَيفَ سُطِحَت |
| Transliteration (Tanzil) | Waila alardi kayfa sutihat |
| Transliteration (Unicode) | Wa ilal ardi kaifa sutihat |
| English (Pickthall) | And the earth, how it is spread? |
| English (Yusuf Ali) | And at the Earth, how it is spread out? |
| English (Saheeh Int’l) | And at the earth - how it is spread out? |
| English (Abridged Expl.) | And at the earth, how He spread it out, and made it suitable for people to settle on?! |
| हिन्दी (Farooq) | और धरती की ओर कि कैसी बिछाई गई? |
| हिन्दी (Suhail) | और ज़मीन की तरफ कि किस तरह बिछायी गयी है |
| हिन्दी तफ्सीर (Mokhtasar) | और धरती को नहीं देखते कि अल्लाह ने उसे कैसे बिछाया और उसे लोगों के उसपर बसने के लिए तैयार किया?! |
| Ayah 21 |
| عَرَبِي | فَذَكِّر إِنَّما أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌ |
| Transliteration (Tanzil) | Fathakkir innama anta muthakkirun |
| Transliteration (Unicode) | Fazakkir innama anta Muzakkir |
| English (Pickthall) | Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, |
| English (Yusuf Ali) | Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. |
| English (Saheeh Int’l) | So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. |
| English (Abridged Expl.) | After He directed them to look at those things that show His Power, He directed His messenger, saying: So counsel, O Messenger, these people and warn them of Allah’s punishment. You are but one who reminds. You are only required to remind them. Guiding them to faith is in Allah's hands alone. |
| हिन्दी (Farooq) | अच्छा तो नसीहत करो! तुम तो बस एक नसीहत करनेवाले हो |
| हिन्दी (Suhail) | तो तुम नसीहत करते रहो तुम तो बस नसीहत करने वाले हो |
| हिन्दी तफ्सीर (Mokhtasar) | (ऐ रसूल) आप इन लोगों को नसीहत करें और इन्हें अल्लाह के अज़ाब से डराएँ, क्योंकि आप केवल नसीहत करने वाले हैं। आपको केवल उन्हें नसीहत करने के लिए कहा जाता है। जहाँ तक उन्हें ईमान की तौफ़ीक़ देने की बात है, तो वह केवल अल्लाह के हाथ में है। |

| عَرَبِي | لَستَ عَلَيهِم بِمُصَيطِرٍ |
| Transliteration (Tanzil) | Lasta AAalayhim bimusaytirin |
| Transliteration (Unicode) | Lasta 'alaihim bimusaitir |
| English (Pickthall) | Thou art not at all a warder over them. |
| English (Yusuf Ali) | Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs. |
| English (Saheeh Int’l) | You are not over them a controller. |
| English (Abridged Expl.) | You have not been given control over them so that you can compel them to have faith. |
| हिन्दी (Farooq) | तुम उनपर कोई दरोग़ा नही हो |
| हिन्दी (Suhail) | तुम कुछ उन पर दरोग़ा तो हो नहीं |
| हिन्दी तफ्सीर (Mokhtasar) | आप उनपर नियुक्त नहीं हैं कि उन्हें ईमान लाने पर मजबूर करें। |
| Ayah 23 |
| عَرَبِي | إِلّا مَن تَوَلّىٰ وَكَفَرَ |
| Transliteration (Tanzil) | Illa man tawalla wakafara |
| Transliteration (Unicode) | Illaa man tawallaa wa kafar |
| English (Pickthall) | But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, |
| English (Yusuf Ali) | But if any turn away and reject Allah,- |
| English (Saheeh Int’l) | However, he who turns away and disbelieves - |
| English (Abridged Expl.) | But, those of them who turn away from faith and reject Allah and His messenger. |
| हिन्दी (Farooq) | किन्तु जिस किसी ने मुँह फेरा और इनकार किया, |
| हिन्दी (Suhail) | हाँ जिसने मुँह फेर लिया |
| हिन्दी तफ्सीर (Mokhtasar) | परंतु उनमें से जिसने ईमान से मुँह मोड़ लिया और अल्लाह तथा उसके रसूल का इनकार किया। |
| Ayah 24 |
| عَرَبِي | فَيُعَذِّبُهُ اللَّهُ العَذابَ الأَكبَرَ |
| Transliteration (Tanzil) | FayuAAaththibuhu Allahu alAAathaba alakbara |
| Transliteration (Unicode) | Fa yu'azzibuhul laahul 'azaabal akbar |
| English (Pickthall) | Allah will punish him with direst punishment. |
| English (Yusuf Ali) | Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, |
| English (Saheeh Int’l) | Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. |
| English (Abridged Expl.) | Allah will punish them on the Day of Judgement with the greatest punishment by entering them into Hell to remain there forever. |
| हिन्दी (Farooq) | तो अल्लाह उसे बड़ी यातना देगा |
| हिन्दी (Suhail) | और न माना तो ख़ुदा उसको बहुत बड़े अज़ाब की सज़ा देगा |
| हिन्दी तफ्सीर (Mokhtasar) | तो क़ियामत के दिन अल्लाह उसे सबसे बड़ी यातना देगा कि उसे जहन्नम में दाखिल करेगा, जहाँ वह हमेशा रहेगा। |

| عَرَبِي | إِنَّ إِلَينا إِيابَهُم |
| Transliteration (Tanzil) | Inna ilayna iyabahum |
| Transliteration (Unicode) | Innaa ilainaaa iyaabahum |
| English (Pickthall) | Lo! unto Us is their return |
| English (Yusuf Ali) | For to Us will be their return; |
| English (Saheeh Int’l) | Indeed, to Us is their return. |
| English (Abridged Expl.) | To Me alone is their return after their death. |

| عَرَبِي | ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَينا حِسابَهُم |
| Transliteration (Tanzil) | Thumma inna AAalayna hisabahum |
| Transliteration (Unicode) | Summa inna 'alainaa hisaabahum |
| English (Pickthall) | And Ours their reckoning. |
| English (Yusuf Ali) | Then it will be for Us to call them to account. |
| English (Saheeh Int’l) | Then indeed, upon Us is their account. |
