| English (Pickthall) | And the night when it departeth, |
| English (Yusuf Ali) | And by the Night when it passeth away;- |

| English (Abridged Expl.) | And He takes an oath on the night when it arrives, continues and goes away. The complement of these oaths is: you will definitely be requited for your actions. |

| Transliteration (Unicode) | Hal fee zaalika qasamul lizee hijr |
| English (Pickthall) | There surely is an oath for thinking man. |
| English (Yusuf Ali) | Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? |
| English (Saheeh Int’l) | Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? |
| English (Qarai) | Is there an oath in that for one possessing intellect? |
| English (Hilali) | There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! |

| English (Pickthall) | Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, |

| English (Saheeh Int’l) | [All of] whom oppressed within the lands |
| English (Qarai) | —those who rebelled [against Allah] in their cities |
| English (Hilali) | Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). |
| English (Abridged Expl.) | All these people transgressed the limit in tyranny and oppression; each of them transgressed it in his land. |

| हिन्दी (Suhail) | ये लोग मुख़तलिफ़ शहरों में सरकश हो रहे थे |

| عَرَبِي | فَأَكثَروا فيهَا الفَسادَ |

| Transliteration (Unicode) | Fa aksaroo feehal fasaad |
| English (Pickthall) | And multiplied iniquity therein? |

| English (Saheeh Int’l) | And increased therein the corruption. |
| English (Qarai) | and caused much corruption in them, |
| English (Hilali) | And made therein much mischief. |
| English (Abridged Expl.) | They caused an abundance of corruption due to spreading disbelief and sins. |

| عَرَبِي | فَصَبَّ عَلَيهِم رَبُّكَ سَوطَ عَذابٍ |

| Transliteration (Tanzil) | Fasabba AAalayhim rabbuka sawta AAathabin |
| Transliteration (Unicode) | Fasabba 'alaihim Rabbuka sawta 'azaab |
| English (Pickthall) | Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. |
| English (Yusuf Ali) | Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: |
| English (Saheeh Int’l) | So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. |
| English (Qarai) | so your Lord poured on them lashes of punishment. |
| English (Hilali) | So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. |
| English (Abridged Expl.) | So Allah made them suffer His severe punishment, and annihilated them off the earth. |

| English (Pickthall) | Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. |

| English (Saheeh Int’l) | Indeed, your Lord is in observation. |
| English (Qarai) | Indeed your Lord is in ambush. |
| English (Hilali) | Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). |
| English (Abridged Expl.) | O Messenger! Indeed, your Lord watches over and observes the actions of the people, so that He can requite whoever does good with Paradise, and whoever does evil with the hellfire. |

| English (Yusuf Ali) | He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" |
